How to Roast Garlic

If you love garlic then this Roasted Garlic recipe is just for you!

I love garlic. If a recipe has a little amount of garlic in it, you can bet I’m doubling it. I just can’t get enough. One of the simple pleasures of the kitchen happens when you learn how to roast garlic. The silky smooth goodness is rivaled by few other foods. Plus, it adds a delicious depth of flavor to anything you mix with it!

How to Roast Garlic–The Process

Since I love garlic so much, when I found some monster-sized heads of garlic at my go-to farm stand I knew they were destined for the oven. (Seriously, check out how big these things were!?!) So I came home tonight and popped them in the oven to make this delightful treat for the week.

The best thing is, the recipe couldn’t be simpler! Just top the head of garlic as seen below, peel off some of the outer paper, and place on a sheet of aluminum foil. Then, sprinkle with salt and pepper and liberally soak the whole head with olive oil. (Do not use Extra Virgin Olive Oil).

Next, fold the foil around the head of garlic, and pinch to make a tightly-sealed packet. Then pop in the oven for 40 minutes at 350 degrees. Once the roasted goodness is soft to the touch when you squeeze the packet, pull the garlic packet out and let it cool.

When it has cooled enough so you can handle them, either start picking out snack sized portions with a fork or squeeze the whole head into a bowl to add to other recipes. Either way, you are in for a simple and delicious treat!

Using Roasted Garlic

After roasting your head (or heads) of garlic, you can either use them right away or store them. If you are using them right away, just squeeze this goodness into your recipes like this Roasted Garlic & Butternut Squash Mash. Roasted garlic is also perfect in mashed potatoes–the possibilities are really endless!.

If you are going to store them for use later in the week, just squeeze the contents into sealed storage container and put in your frig. You will want to make sure the container is sealed, otherwise your whole frig will smell like garlic the next day. (Ask me how I know!?!)

I hope you enjoyed learning how to roast garlic, and that you try it today! You will not regret it!
