Mulled Apple Cider–Slow Cooker Style!

Mulled Apple Cider–Slow Cooker Style!

The leaves are changing, there is a chill in the air, and it is time for hot apple cider! My favorite hot apple cider recipe is actually a mulled apple cider recipe. The spices with the warming fruitiness of the cider are quintessential Fall, and always take me back to chilly high school football games, hay rack rides, bonfires, and good memories spend with friends.

So, when I want to make a beverage to share with a group of friends in the Fall, this is the recipe I pull out over and over again. Everyone always loves it, and I know you will find your friends and family will be asking for more every time you make it!

What is Mulled Apple Cider?

Mulled Cider is a delicious Fall drink which is warmed with several ‘Fall’ spices and citrus juice to make a delightfully tasty and warming treat! In fact, the phrase ‘to mull something over’ which means to study or ruminate over a topic, could be connected to this method of cooking. You quite literally ‘ruminating’ the spices with the juices to make this delicious mulled cider.

What Kind of Apple Cider Should I Use?

As with every recipe, the ingredients make a huge impact on the result, and I have a favorite fresh cider source at my go-to farm stand in town. They have the best fresh-pressed cider I have ever had, and it isn’t full of preservatives–just the loveliness of their apples! If you are in the area, you should check them out! Otherwise, check your grocer’s fruit section or the refrigerated section for a jug of fresh apple cider.

How to Make Mulled Cider

The process of how to make mulled cider is really simple. (Who has time for complicated in the Fall when everyone is busy, right?!?) Just pull out your slow cooker, pour in some delicious cider, and add a spice bag full of spices. Then let your slow cooker make your house smell like Fall while warming up this fantastic beverage. (A great party trick to make your house smell divine!)

If you just want a hot cider and don’t want to add all the spices to make it a mulled cider, you could totally do this without the spices too. The more tasty the cider is, the better the results will be!

To really kick things up a notch, pair your mulled cider with a slice of French Apple Pie. What is more Fall than apple pie and apple cider??

Stove Top Version

Making this mulled cider recipe on the stove top is also possible. Just pour all your ingredients into a large pot and heat until warmed through. To bring out more of the mulled spices, let the cider gently simmer for at least 15 minutes. (The longer it simmers, the more the spices will come through in the finished product!).

Storing Your Mulled Cider

If you find yourself with leftover mulled cider, you can store it in the frig for a couple days. Then, to reheat, either pour some in a mug to microwave, reheat in a small pot on the stove or put it all back into the slow cooker to warm for a crowd! This cider recipe does not last long in this house, and I doubt it will in yours either!
