Decadent Hot Chocolate

Winter and the Christmas season have always included hot chocolate for me. Whether it is a cup to warm up with on a cold night, or a slow cooker full for a crowd of friends, co-workers or family, hot chocolate is one of those foods that always invokes warm and happy memories.

As a result, I have perfected the slow cooker version for you to share with your family on Christmas Eve, with co-workers at the office Christmas party, or just to have on the counter for a day of playing in the snow. This silky rich recipe will not disappoint. The key is to use quality ingredients–I use Ghirardelli brand cocoa and chocolate along with organic whole milk and heavy cream.

Once you make this, you will not go back to any other kind, and there is enough that you won’t mind sharing with everyone! Plus, if you make more than you can drink or share in a day, this recipe will keep in the frig for up to a week ready for you to reheat and enjoy. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!

I hope this recipe brings you as much joy as it has for me over the years!

Merry Christmas!

Cup of Decadent Hot Chocolate in a Santa mug.

1/4 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

1/2 Cup Hot Water

20 oz Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips (I use these)

10 Cups Whole Organic Milk

2 1/2 C Organic Heavy Cream

1-12 oz Can Evaporated Milk

1/4 Cup Sugar

1/4 t. Kosher Salt

  1. Put all ingredients in a standard sized Slow Cooker.
  2. Mix until cocoa is dissolved
  3. Cook on High for 4 hours or Low for 6 hours. Stir once or twice to incorporate the melted chocolate chips.
  4. Enjoy!

You can always top this with marshmallows, peppermint or any other fun candy topping to make it extra special, but you really don’t need it since this is soo good on its own!
